Operation Big Kid Beds: Night 1

Last night was Jake & Mal's first night to sleep in their new big kid beds, & they did so well! J & I finished moving over all their comfort items, fan, monitor & clothing yesterday afternoon so they'd really feel like this room was theirs now. They were intrigued but still didn't fully understand what was going on, because after bath time, they ran straight for the nursery. We redirected them to the big kid room, showed them where all of their stuff was, & talked up how cool it was that they got to sleep in there.

Here are the beds with bedding, minus the bed rails that are now installed. I still need bed skirts, a bedside table, curtains & some wall decor. Mal has polka dot sheets...
& Jake has sharks on his!
Jake got a little teary when I told him I'd see him in the morning, but he only cried for a couple of minutes after we left. We put a pressure gate on the outside of their closed door, but they didn't ever try to escape. After about twenty minutes of talking & giggling (their normal night routine), they fell fast asleep.

We went in about ten o'clock to check on them, & Mal was sprawled on her back, head at the foot of the bed, teetering close to the edge. J moved her back to her pillow, but then she fell out of bed at 4:30. Apparently, she inherited crazy sleep habits from her mother. She only cried for a minute as he put her back in, & Jake slept through the whole thing. I happily went to get them at 7:30 this morning when Jake started calling my name! Hopefully our success isn't just beginner's luck. We'll see!

Woohoo, way to go Jake and Mallory! I hope they continue to do well and keep the success going for the potty-training process, too :-)
