Aloha: Ka'anapali Beach

J & I returned last Wednesday from a week long trip to the island of Maui. We try to rack up enough Starwood points each year to take one free trip that's just the two of us, & it's always a welcome treat! Mimi & Pops held down the fort with Jake & Mal in our absence, & I don't think the kids even had time to miss us with all the fun they had.

We chose to stay on the west side of Maui at the Westin on Ka'anapali Beach. The area is absolutely beautiful, & the resort also had a lot of nice perks for families, so we may have to go back in a few years with the kids in tow. Here's the view looking down the beach in front of our resort.

In our suite before dinner one night. Our room included a kitchenette & washer/dryer, which came in handy.
View from the Sheraton resort on Blackrock where we ate one night

The water was just gorgeous, & we enjoyed some fantastic snorkeling. We ended up being very glad that we rented our snorkel gear for the whole week because it was nice to not have to squeeze it all in one day. Most days, we went out two or three times to swim with the fishies. On our last day, we finally got to see two green sea turtles, which I'd been hoping for all week. They were magnificent & absolutely huge! We wore ourselves out trying to swim after them just to get to watch them a little longer. Their graceful movements may look slow, but those things are fast! My favorite fish were probably the black & yellow angelfish.
Oh no, a beached whale! Wait, that's just a pregnant girl in a bathing suit. Perhaps not my best look ever but this was the only pic taken that actually proves that I was present on the beach.
A few shots of our resort

I have tons more pictures from some of our excursions & activities, but I thought I'd break it up to avoid a gigantic post.
