Run, Daddy, Run!

A few weeks ago, Justin ran in the White Rock Half Marathon. He's done one full marathon before, & this was his third half marathon. He did a great job & finished in an hour & 46 minutes!

Nana was kind enough to come along to help me with the kids & cheer him on.
It was a bit chilly that morning, but these two fans looked so adorable all bundled up!
Hi Daddy! This was about mile 6.
After the race, we had a hard time finding him but finally did & then headed to Tinstar for a celebratory lunch.
Justin, we love you & are so proud of you!

Santa Claus Came to Town!

For grandparents, out-of-town family & anyone else who's interested, here's a peek into our Christmas morning. My favorite part is the fact that Jake cleaned up Santa's leftovers.

Very Merry

I already have many, many pictures to post, but for now, these two cuties just wanted to say Merry Christmas!

Waiting at the top of the stairs this morning to come down & see what Santa had brought for them.

My Fish is Your Fish

J caught some cute play time on his phone camera last week when Mommy was out for the evening. Enjoy the giggles!

Our Newest Niece

Two weeks ago, the kids & I headed to Paris for a quick day trip. As always, Jake & Mal had a blast finding all sorts of trouble to get into at Nana & Papa's house.

They each needed lots of turns in the little rocking chair...

they emptied the toy chest of its contents...
worked on some puzzles with Nana...
& got to play with their cousin, Brody!
But the main point & highlight of our trip was meeting this little bundle!
Aubrey Elizabeth was born the day before Thanksgiving & is just as sweet as can be. Check out that hair!
Cousin picture! I didn't want the twins touching Aubrey, so I had to hold her near the rest of the group. They're rather rowdy!

Check!

The crazy holiday season is upon us, & while I haven't done everything I would have liked to by this point, I think I'm doing okay.
  • Procure warm coats for the kids (before our first cold weather showed up) - check!
Not sure why, but sometimes Mal likes to leave her hood on & just walk around the house like this. Silly girl!
  • Make lots of fun messes - check!
This particular one was due to some strawberries enjoyed at snack

  • Host some holiday festivities - check!
These pics are from our small group Christmas party, & I'm hosting my bunko group tomorrow.

  • Dress the kids in all sorts of holiday fun - check!
Much to their Daddy's chagrin.
  • Send Christmas cards - check!
  • Make yummy Christmas treats - in progress. I made sugared cranberries yesterday & am working on gingerbread today. The food may be my favorite part of Christmas!

Their First Inside Joke

I'm sure that through the years, Jake & Mal will share many inside jokes. I don't quite understand this one, but I think it's their first. During meal times lately, Mal will start shaking her head back in forth in an exaggerated fashion, & then Jake just cracks up. The ladies that keep them at Mother's Day Out even said they were doing it during lunch time there. Here's a demonstration:

One Out of Two Ain't Bad

The Chamblee family ventured to Northpark mall this afternoon to visit Santa! As J & I discussed the event earlier today, we couldn't quite decide which of the kids we thought would freak out (or if both would). Here's the verdict:
That shot was the professional one that we scanned in, but I also enjoyed some of the ones we took.

Here's how happy I was that we didn't have to wait long!
The progression that these show makes me laugh. We go from confusion on the part of both kids...
to Jake realizing fully that this was a BAD situation...
to Mal thinking it's funny that Jake is upset & cheesing all the more...
to Jake trying to escape completely...
to Mal getting what she really prefers!
On the up side, both kids can now tell you what Santa says. Ho ho ho!

When eyes are pink, the weekend stinks!

Okay, so maybe my title is a bit dramatic. The whole weekend didn't stink, but the pink eye part certainly did!

Saturday morning, Jake woke up with a slightly swollen right eye. I decided to watch it for a few hours before calling the doctor, since it could have been from a number of things. As the day progressed, however, it became rather evident that we were dealing with pink eye. It spread to his other eye, & he was oh so kind to share it with his sister.

So off we went to the after hours pediatric clinic for a rather pricey diagnosis. The finishing touch? They both still had ear infections in both ears, apparently lingering from the infections we had a few weeks ago. Poor babies!
Good thing those drops work quickly! (Based on the price, they must be made of pure gold, so maybe that's what makes them work so well!) We're all cleared up now & on the mend from the ear infections. We're going back to our regular doctor next week just to make sure we knocked them out this time.
With all that drama, we didn't even notice until last night when we were brushing their teeth that Jake has his first molar. He's now two teeth ahead of Mal, so she'd better catch up. What fun!

Scobey-Chamblee Thanksgiving '09

As usual, I had good intentions about posting our Thanksgiving many days ago, but better late than never, right?

The Friday night before Thanksgiving, the four of us set out on our first ever road trip with the kids. I'm proud to say that we made it in 12 hours & 20 minutes, including four stops. It required lots of patience, snacks, some ipod headphones & creative parenting strategies, including, but not limited to, Elmo DVDs, but we made it!

J & the kids with our loaded car before we set out
Once in Atlanta, Jake & Mallory had a blast exploring Pops & Mimi's big, new house!

Over the week we were there, we enjoyed lots of time with the extended family & way too much good food!

Cousin baths are so much fun!
We've developed a tradition over the last few years of eating at The Varsity the day before Thanksgiving. The kids enjoyed their hot dogs & fries & especially the hats!On Thanksgiving day, we had a houseful! Twenty-four people shared a meal, including six babies under two years old!

Grandpa with Mallory

Pops was Jake's favorite person while we were there. He even learned to say his name! A few nights ago, Pops was in Dallas & stopped by to see the kids. The minute he walked in the door, Jake exclaimed, "Pops!" It is so sweet to watch them together.

Sweet Mommy's girl!

Enjoying the feast!

This was the only picture I manage of me with both kids, & I didn't get one of Justin. I am very disappointed in our picture taking efforts during this trip, but we did get to have a professional photo shoot with J's cousin, Graham, so that makes up for it.
My sister-in-law, Amy, is always sweet to take on extra kids to play with, & she's a big hit with the twins.

As I mentioned, J's cousin Graham took some beautiful pictures of the fam while we were there. If you're interested, you can view them here. I'll be posting some of my favorites when I get the files from him.

I hope everyone had a happy Turkey Day!
